Next DPTJ Book Club Read: "Don't Thank God" by Frank Allison
Allison's debut poetry collection is a stunner
Hello friends! I'm popping by with a quick update about our next read for the “Deadly Passions, Terrible Joys” book club — and it's a banger.
For our May 1 edition, we'll be reading “Don't Thank God, Thank the Crash Test Dummies That Came Before You,” the debut poetry collection from the inimitable Frank Allison. You can get a copy directly from the publisher, Game Over Books.
Spoiler: I've already read this collection and loved it so much that I haven't stopped thinking about it, which is why I'm including it in our book club this year. I've truly never read anything like it, but its themes are things that you'll find peppered throughout plenty of DPTJ episodes: Risking one's life for a fleeting moment of glory, outrunning one's past, striving for more because nothing is ever enough, reckoning with mediocrity.
The best part? Frank has some fun surprises for the fine denizens of the DPTJ Book Club — so make sure you're ready with your copy come May 1!
