Super insightful, thank you! It made me consider why I love racing so much as well as the history behind men dictating how we can relate to cars and racing 🏎️❤️

Thank you for this clever, funny and enlightening post....Made me once again realize how very lucky I am to have grown up as a ski racer in Sun Valley, Idaho, in a world where there was NO sexism at all...not ever...and also ask myself ' why am I obsessed with Formula 1?" Now I think that my history of racing may have something to do with it...speed, analysis of turns, physical strength and endurance etc. But F1 is more challenging as all the drivers are on track at the same time!!! Love this article. FYI - lots of famous male ski racers are also CUTE...ha ha...I had a crush on Jean Claude Killy in the '70's...and Spider Sabich...

What I love and respect about Formula 1 is 1) the innovations and technological advancements, and 2) the drivers who literally flirt with death every weekend. This sport is all about pushing the limits to the very end, and this is both beautiful and scary as hell.

I grew up with F1 (both my parents were great fans of Schumacher) but I only started watching in 2022. Which is funny because it was only 2 years after I stopped horse riding; and the exact same thing happened to my mother (horse riding for years, stopped and then started watching F1). I don’t know if there is a link between the two sports, with a similar vocabulary or this same feeling of fear when you’re pushing the limits. But we always found the thought quite fun!

So well put and so many points that I had never consciously considered but it definitely rings true.

This is so spot on. I also love that it has so much to learn which is satisfying for my knowledge seeking brain. It’s incredibly campy while also drawing you in with a very aspirational lifestyle surrounding with it. It is just a fascinating sport and sport culture!

Also we like it for all the same reasons men like it but I know you know that.

Amazing read , as a man was super insightful and grateful to have that knowledge now !!

I mean the more people in the sport thr better it’ll become!

Now let’s push for female , minority team principals , managers , drivers etc !

Especially at the grassroots level

I love this. All of this. I was making a list of highlights I wanted to mention in this comment, but a third of the way through I had too many to write down. I found every bit relatable. Amazing.

Even my 'girlfriends' don't get why I love F1 - as if I'm some sort of odd outlier...I've decided not to care if they don't get. it...and keep my mentions of Lewis Hamilton to a minimum...

I enjoyed this article Elizabeth. I think the reason all humans, men and women, like racing is visceral! The first time I ever got to go to a race I was lucky enough to watch from the pits bc my dad worked for American Motors. When all the cars started up I literally felt my eardrums rattle. That’s what I’m talking about. And I’d have given a body part to hear a V-10 at full song live!! Beyond that, it’s why we all watch races of all kinds. Running, swimming, etc. It’s the visceral need to know who finished first! Who’s gonna win? Who won? Anyway, just my two cents!

I agree 100%! There's a certain kind of magic in seeing the way humans push themselves (and their machines) to the absolute limit, to see who can come out on top!
